On October 2, my grandma, Olive White, passed away. She was by far the kindest person I have ever known and I am incredibly lucky to have had the privilege to call her my grandmother.
On Saturday my dad organized a lovely visitation and lunch for grandma in Goderich and I heard such wonderful stories about her time as a nurse, her generosity and kind spirit.
It was really nice to meet so many people that knew grandma and to see some friendly faces.
After lunch we went to the cemetery to plant a rose bush where she will be laid, next to my grandpa.
After it was planted, we re-grouped back at John and Connie’s, who were so kind to open their gorgeous home to us and make us feel so comfortable during this time.
On Friday and Saturday night we released some paper lanterns. Friday’s release went well, but unfortunately, due to some wind and sprinkle of rain, Saturday didn’t go quite as well. It was fun all the same, as soon as we realized the tree wasn’t going to catch fire…
My dad booked us a room at a hotel just down the road from John and Connie (called Samuels) and we were lucky to get upgraded to a room overlooking the river. It was very nice. Just look at Kirby jumping for joy!
All in all, I have to say, it was a good weekend, one that grandma would have approved of.
