At the beginning of July, it was my 35th birthday and our 5 year wedding anniversary. Serendipitously, one of our favourite bands, Lord Huron, was playing in Montreal on July 6. So we decided to book ourselves a room at the Holiday Inn 4 blocks from the concert and drove up to Montreal on that Wednesday afternoon. We were upgraded to a double king room, so that was nice.
Then we went for dinner in Chinatown around the corner and had a huge delicious meal.
Then we headed to the Metropolis for Lord Huron. We were really excited for the show. Unfortunately, the sound wasn’t great, but it did eventually improve and we had a great night.
The next morning we headed south out of Montreal and into northern Vermont via Lake Champlain. Rural Vermont is about as pretty as you would imagine.
And apparently, they get a lot of mail.
Just outside of Burlington we stopped and had lunch in this amazingly American diner. Look how happy Kirby is!
When we got to Burlington we checked in to our B&B. This was our first time staying in a B&B and we didn’t know what to expect, but our room was spacious and very comfortable.
It was raining when we unpacked so we decided to go check out the Ben & Jerry’s factory. This place is pretty cool and you can try every type of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream there is. We were going to take a tour, but there were too many people and the wait was too long.
On my 35th birthday I decided it was time to give up sugar. Not naturally occurring sugar, but added sugar. I quickly came to regret that decision.
I decided I would be allowed to cheat… Kirby got a small (on the right) and I got the kids size (on the left). I’d hate to see what the large looked like.
After ice cream, we headed back to explore downtown Burlington. It’s a very cute city with a lot of nice shops along Church street.
We stopped and had a wonderful meal at a little pub called Halvorson’s.
Then walked down to the water for what turned out to be a gorgeous sunset.
I tried to get a picture of us in front of the sunset, but it was too dark and they didn’t turn out.
This summer is also the first time we let Stanley out. We supervise him for the most part and he doesn’t venture far, but he sure is cute. Stanley and Kirby play a cute game of “chase”which I enjoy watching.
On July 30th we were invited to attend my friend Erin’s wedding. Erin and Richard have been together for 14 years, so this wedding felt extra special.
Erin looked gorgeous and I was so happy I could be there on her big day.
And since I didn’t get a good picture of Kirby and I on our anniversary, I was glad we got a good picture together at the wedding.
Thoroughly enjoy your blogs Gab.
